House Horak

Project Team: Adriaan Wooding
Location: Boschhoek Mountain Estate, Modimolle. Limpopo
Site Area: 10 017 m²
Building Area: 364.39 m²
Year: 2014-2015

Constructed out of rammed earth and brick, this family weekend dwelling is located in a wildlife mountain estate in the Waterberg Mountains and hidden away between the bushveld trees. The concept of the loose structure design is a couple of tents with a large gazebo over them creating a central entertainment area. This design concept is very fitting for the site and type of client. The construction process, with a client-builder, proved to have the most lesson with this unfamiliar method of compacting dirt into rich layers of the surrounding areas soil, but ended with beautiful natural walls and colours. The dwelling makes no use of any municipal services and is completely self-sustained through septic tanks, solar power and borehole water.
